Robert Van Gulik – The Chinese Gold Murders

Posted by Dirk under: books .

Another pick up from the Friends of the Library used book sale.

The book is about Judge Dee and his first appointment as a magistrate. His predecessor has been murdered and Judge Dee’s first task is to find out who did it. This is complicated by Korean arms smugglers, the ghost of the murdered man and a were-tiger, along with other things.

The first Judge Dee book was written in 1950 and several more were written over the next 10 years or so.

Judge Dee is sort of like an ancient Chinese Sherlock Holmes.

The book was fun and a nice change of pace.
