Obama

Posted by Dirk under: musings; politics .

A while ago somebody called me a cynic and I rejected that label, but the fact is, I suppose it’s true.

Cynic – noun: someone who is critical of the motives of others.

That’s pretty much me when it comes to politicians. I still vote but it seems that I have always been voting for one person just to make sure the other person doesn’t win. I haven’t voted for anybody that I can remember because of what I hoped that person might accomplish but rather to keep the other person running from taking office and doing nefarious deeds.

This cynical tendency of mine isn’t limited to just politicians. I pretty much assume that anybody I don’t know will screw me over somehow, given half a chance. The old saying ‘Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me’ has been burned into me over the years. I wasn’t always cynical, I used to a smiling, innocent lad, seeing the good in others and trusting them to do the right thing. Not anymore though.

But, I’ve decided to lower the drawbridge, sally forth from my defenses and join the Obama crowd. I first noticed Barack Obama when he gave that keynote speech at the democrat’s convention a few years ago. He’s a good talker. He says thing I want to hear. I know that’s what politicians do and they are usually lying, however… I’m gonna give Obama the benefit of the doubt. He’s my last roll of the dice as far as politicians go. If he wins and gets in the big house and does the same old shit as the others have, I’ll have learned my lesson once again.

I hope he doesn’t though. I believe he won’t. I think he’s the real deal.

So, call up the New York Times and tell em to clear some space on the front page to let people know that I am giving Barack Obama my endorsement and support. đŸ™‚
