George Pelecanos – Hard Revolution

Good book. Starts in 1959 but after 7 chapters it jumps forward to 1969. Basically about a young black kid (he’s 12 in 59) who grows up and joins the police force and various people he comes in contact with.
Music and cars are all over in this book. Nearly every scene has music playing and Pelecanos always lets the reader know what the song is. Every car is described in some detail.
The book culminates in a riot in D.C. after Dr. King is assassinated.
I could easily see this as a movie. A pretty good one too.
